Library Alumni Power

Each year a dozen or so full-time ICP students toil in the ICP library.  We could not do what we do without them.  It is a great trade-off.  They bring us new and interesting perspectives from their point of view, be it regional, artistic, intellectual, or all.  They get some assistance on their tuition and an opportunity to embed in the library, where they usually absorb more than they realize until later.

It is my privilege to know and later follow what becomes of these young photographers, who often pursue paths of great significance.  David Trilling was in the first class in the school on 43rd Street and Avenue of the Americas, which opened in 2001.  Since then, he took a master’s degree at Columbia University SIPA, and is now Central Asia Editor for EurasiaNet.

He is an exemplar of my notion that the students who spend the most time in our library are the smartest people we are likely to meet.

Although David lives in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, it is an honor to link to him virtually and keep up with what he is seeing and doing.
