The Strand is a show that I am an ardent admirer of. It is my culture podcast on my morning and evening commute. I recently re-listened to one that was a tribute to the South African photographer Ernest Cole, whose important book is in our library.

The great photographer David Goldblatt, a favorite of this library, discusses the cropping of images in Cole’s ground-breaking work House of Bondage: A South African Black Man Exposes in his Own Pictures and Words the Bitter Life of his Homeland Today, and the story of a suitcase – how many mysterious suitcases are there in photography’s history?
ICP Library is proud to be international, and zealous to continue to enrich its holdings from the African continent. If you come by, have a look at the remarkable works by David Goldblatt, Jo Ractliffe, and American photographer of South Africa Roger Ballen.
